If you are a teacher already using Studeous, then you know this is true. Syncing with your SIS does have some benefits, such as getting students in the system and having their same login and passwords, but we have developed a method which is just as effective without requiring the time and money it takes to sync your system.
Getting everybody setup follows a simple three-step process:
Create a sign up code for students and a sign up code for teachers
Distribute these codes. Users can sign up at Studeous.com
Teachers create their class pages and students enroll themselves in their respective classes.
Once everybody’s in the system, you can deactivate the signup codes to prevent new users from signing up. You don't need the information about users from the SIS, because people can enter it themselves. In fact, since users can edit their own information in Studeous, it is much more likely to be up to be accurate and up to date.
This method has been working perfectly for many teachers and schools. It puts much less of a burden on the tech staff to place everybody correctly and move students when they switch classes because the students are adept enough to do it themselves.
Getting your school running on Studeous is so easy that your entire school could be on it tomorrow.
Have questions about Studeous implementation, or Studeous in general? Drop us a line.
Studeous is a web platform, not "copied code". What this means is that every student, teacher, and school that uses Studeous is running off the same code. You never have to do any patching, you instantly get new features as they are released, and if a bug ever arises (however unlikely) it is fixed within minutes of discovery.
Often we make features for one teacher or school that other users can benefit from, so instead of that feature only being on one system, now the entire Studeous community receives the added benefit. This also gives us an added incentive to give you what you want in terms of features, because by giving you what you want, we improve Studeous for everyone.
Because we are a business, unlike Moodle, and because we have to answer to admins and teachers (unlike other commercial competitors) our incentives are aligned to make the best product ever. If Moodle doesn't get better everyday, nobody will lose their job. If bigger systems doesn't satisfy teachers, it doesn't matter, because they sold it to the administration and the contract has been signed. However, if teachers don't like Studeous, it won't spread and we won't make sales. So essentially, because of our model, we are the first e-learning company that is truly responsible for the effectiveness of every part of the product.
Development began on Studeous in early 2008. It's new, fresh, and getting better every day. And we have big plans for the future.
