An assessment company, not a coaching company

What we do

We write and publish practice assessments for admissions tests: the SAT, the GMAT Focus Edition, the GRE General Test and PTE Academic today, with IELTS, TOEFL and school subject assessments in preparation. Each test runs on its exam’s published section timing and reports on its real score scale.

We do not teach. There are no courses here, no video lessons and no tutors on staff. Students who need teaching get it from a school or a tutor; what they often cannot get is an honest measurement of where they stand, and that is the gap we fill.

Why we report a band

Every test score carries a standard error of measurement. On an SAT composite it is roughly forty points, which means a single practice test locates a student inside a band about eighty points wide — not on a point. Most practice platforms report the point anyway, because a single number is more satisfying to receive.

We report the band, and show it narrowing as a student completes more sections. It is less flattering and more useful. A student who believes they are “a 1310” makes different decisions from one who knows they are somewhere in 1270 to 1350, and the second student is the one who is right.

Where our questions come from

Every question is written by our own item writers against each exam’s published specification — the domains, formats and difficulty distribution the test owner documents. Nothing is copied from a live or retired exam.

That is a legal position, and also a practical one: material that leaks from real exams is withdrawn from circulation, so practising on it measures a student’s memory of a compromised item rather than the skill being tested.

What we are not

Studeous is an independent provider. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to College Board, ETS, GMAC, Pearson, the British Council, IDP or Cambridge University Press & Assessment. We name their exams only to say which test our material prepares students for. See our trademark notices.

We also publish no student testimonials, score-improvement claims or user counts. When we have results worth quoting, they will be quoted with the method that produced them.
